Remembrance Day

This week, Primary 5/6 have been learning about Remembrance Day and why it is important.  We have been thinking War and Peace, and have been reflecting on our thoughts and feelings.

Maisie brought some very special items into school!  She showed us the medals her dad had received for his service in the Navy.  We thought about what a dangerous and brave job is done by many men and women in the Armed Forces who serve to protect us and our country.

Aaron brought to school a very special item belonging to his family.  It is a photograph of Aaron's Great, Great, Great Grandpa! Along with the photo, is a poem and handwritten message to his wife.  As a class, we thought about the sacrifices people had to make.  Many had to leave their loved ones to serve their country.

Alex brought something very special into school too!  Here is a photo of her Great Grandpa who served in the Navy.  He received four medals for his service during World War 2.

The different photographs and items that have been brought into school this week have been so interesting to see and talk about.   It is important to think about people who lived and served during War time.  It has helped us to consider the very real impact it had on the lives of actual people.  The class have been able to think about how life was very different for the generations before us, and of the sacrifices that many people made.
